🔐 Enterprise AI: integration, security and compliance
EnglishHinglish
🏠 Real-life example
A hospital lets a visiting specialist in, but with a visitor badge that opens only certain doors, every entry logged, and no patient files leaving the building. Bringing AI into a company works the same way: it connects to legacy systems through controlled doors, sees only what each user is allowed to see, and leaves an audit trail.
💡 In simple words
Enterprise AI projects succeed or fail on integration and trust, not the model. Connect to existing systems (CRMs, ERPs, document stores) through their APIs with proper authentication (SSO, OAuth, service accounts). Make RAG permission-aware: retrieve only documents the asking user is allowed to see. Protect personal data (PII) by masking it before it reaches the model, and know where data is stored and processed (data residency). Log every prompt, tool call and answer for audits. Map requirements to frameworks like GDPR, India's DPDP Act, HIPAA or SOC 2 with the client's security team early.
🪜 Step by step
- Map the data: what personal or confidential data does the AI system touch, and where does it go?
- Choose deployment and vendors that meet the rules: data residency, no training on your data, signed agreements.
- Use the company's identity system (SSO) and permissions, so the AI never shows users more than they could already see.
- Mask or remove personal data where it isn't needed, and keep secrets in a vault.
- Keep audit logs of AI actions and decisions, and document risks and controls for reviews.
🔑 Key terms
- PII
- Personally identifiable information: names, phone numbers, Aadhaar, addresses.
- Permission-aware retrieval
- Search that respects each user's access rights.
- Audit log
- A tamper-resistant record of who did what, and when.
👀 See it in action
HR assistant asks: "What is Priya's salary?"
1. Identify the user via SSO → role = 'team lead'
2. Retrieval filter: only documents this role can read → salary files excluded
3. Answer: "I can't share individual salary details."
4. Audit log: user, question, documents checked, answer, timestampSecurity is enforced by the system, not by hoping the model refuses.
⚠️ Common mistakes to avoid
- Leaving security review to the end. Involve security and legal teams early; it saves months.
- Sending customer data to unapproved AI tools during prototyping.
✅ Quick check
Two employees ask the same RAG bot about confidential plans. What should differ?
- Only the font
- The documents retrieved, based on each person's permissions
- Nothing, same answer for both
Show answer
B. The documents retrieved, based on each person's permissions: Permission-aware retrieval ensures each user only sees content they're allowed to.
🙋 Questions learners ask
Which laws matter in India?
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP) governs personal data, plus sector rules (RBI for banking, for example). Global customers bring GDPR and others.
Can we use cloud LLMs with confidential data?
Often yes, with enterprise agreements, the right region, no training on your data and proper access controls. Some cases still need self hosted models.
📌 Remember
Enforce access, mask PII, log everything, and involve security early.
